Yoga
Yoga is an art and science of living and being, and a very ancient fitness tradition handed down over millennia.
Yoga “invaded” the United States in the late 1960s, and true to our nature, we Americans couldn’t help but mold it to fit our 21st century lifestyles and attitudes.
At North Jackson Pilates, we teach traditional yoga. In that, we mean that our approach to this ancient tradition is very respectful to its original purpose and method. The older teaching schools and lineages, such as Sivananda, Iyengar, and ashtanga, influence our approach to this ancient form of total health and well being.
As is always our approach, postures and sequencing will be chosen according to the client’s individual needs. Static poses, passive stretches, and gentle vinyasa flows (linking poses together with the breath in a continuous movement) are our staples.
Experience
Before opening North Jackson Pilates, Rebecca was owner of Center for Yoga and Health in Clinton, MS. Center for Yoga and Health was a yoga teacher training center affiliated with the Yoga Alliance, and Rebecca trained many of our local yoga teachers in the Jackson metropolitan area. The Fire of Yoga documentary DVD was partially filmed at the studio, chronicling the diagnosis and recovery of Susan Mason, one of Rebecca’s students and teacher trainees.
Over the years, Rebecca’s experience in yoga has included: ashtanga study/practice with Dennis Dean in Mexico; Kashmir Shaivism studies with Georg Feuerstein at Yoga Research and Education Center in California; two Yoga Journal conferences; yoga nidra studies with Richard Miller, varied locations; teaching locally at Millsaps College, Baptist Women’s’ Center, Baptist Healthplex, St. Dominic Hospital, Blue Cross Blue Shield In-House Employee Health, Country Club of Jackson, and more.
